(How Costly Was the Sugar?, 1987), the novel that made her the most famous Surinamese writer overnight and was adapted for film in 2013. She was the first to describe the history, the slaving past and the colonization of her country from a Surinamese perspective. As an expert in the field, she lectures about the history of slavery at US and Canadian universities and organizes educational field and city trips. She has written historic novels, including De Vrije Negerin Elisabeth, gevangene van kleur (The Free Negress Elizabeth, Prisoner of Colour, 1992), as well as studies, children's books and children's musicals. Her No kwik in het bos (No Mercury in the Forest, 2017) is a YA novel about a ten-year-old girl and the dangers of mercury in the gold-mining process. McLeod is a daughter of Johan Ferrier, the first president of Suriname.

is a filmmaker, actress, and yoga teacher. She started out as an actress in 1981 with the Dogtroep, with whom she toured Europe. As of 1985 she wrote and directed her own plays, which won prizes at various international theatre festivals. A few years later she started working as a screenwriter and playwright for the VPRO public broadcaster. She often took on roles in her own series. She created De Hondenshow (The Dog Show), among others, which she later also staged at De Parade. In her latest play, Het Spiritueel Bordeel (The Spiritual Brothel) she combines humour and spirituality. She prefers to take on subjects that people don't like to talk about but recognize themself in, such as obesity, heartbreak, and "the first time."

(Sassenheim, NL, 1942) initially wanted to be an actor but left theatre school after only one year. He then dedicated himself to studying Dutch and founded the literary youth magazine Fase. At the same time, he published his poetry in various other literary magazines and translated drama. He eventually ended up in arts journalism via various odd jobs that paid the bills. He worked (among others) for the newspapers AD, De Haagsche Courant and Het Binnenhof. He also created radio commentaries for Radio West. Although initially hired to cover film and theatre, another great passion became his specialty: jazz. Jansma retired in 2005 but remains active as a journalist for the websites jazzmasters, denhaagjazz and jazzpodium, among others.
