Martine Woudt

(1957) has worked full-time as a French-Dutch translator since 2004. Her translation oeuvre comprises over 60 titles, including works by Albert Camus, Simone de Beauvoir, Maryse Condé, Philippe Besson and David Diop, and comics by Pénélope Bagieu and others. She taught at the School of Translation in Amsterdam for ten years, and during the same time taught an annual minor in literary translation at the Institute for Interpreting and Translation in Utrecht. She also chaired the literary translators' working group of the Vereniging van Letterkundigen (now the Auteursbond) for four years. In 2007, she received the Elly Jaffé Stipendium for promising beginning French-Dutch translators. In 2020, she won the European Literature Prize for Meer dan een broer, her translation into Dutch of International Booker Prize winning novel Frère d'âme (At Night All Blood is Black) by David Diop. For her translation of Philippe Besson's Arrête avec tes mensonges (Lie with Me) Martine Woudt was awarded the Euregio Literary Prize for Scholars 2021.
