Film: Under the Skin

A mysterious woman drives across Scotland in a delivery van, accosting unsuspecting passers-by in order to seduce and lure them into her trap. Again and again, she uses her sexuality to snare her male prey. What's her story? Ronald Rovers gave the film five stars and wrote in the Filmkrant: "Strangeness is what the excellent Under the Skin is most profoundly about. One doesn't need to be an alien, although Scarlett Johansson's nameless character is one. Seen through the right eyes, everything becomes strange. It's also about the eyes themselves. At the start, it's her eyes that turn everything strange. In the end it's also our eyes, at least if you choose to let them."
Peter Bradschaw wrote in The Guardian: "It sure as hell got under [my skin]. Jonathan Glazer's sci-fi horror is loosely adapted, or atmospherically distilled, by Walter Campbell from the 2000 novel by Michel Faber. The result is visually stunning and deeply disturbing: very freaky, very scary and very erotic." He, too, gave the film five stars.
