Johan van Dijke

(Netherlands, 1978) is a visual artist living and working in Amsterdam. In his paintings - constructed from his own photographs - isolated individuals wander through spaces in which the walls seem likely to melt at any moment and ominous things lie beyond the invasive flashlight. In his own words: "In my paintings I try to reconstruct a mental space which is transitional and ephemeral, where the individual lives in isolation, locked in his own personal, unique universe." Furthermore, he creates poetry films with author and poet Asha Karami.
