Jeffrey Quartier
(Paramaribo, 1984) in 2003 made a flying start as a poet. He participated in a poetry convention in Washington, where he won two prizes. His poems appeared in the collection The Colours of Life and in a collection of IAERN. He performed twice during Carifesta. He published his own poetry collection. During '1001 identities' in 2004 he will appear as one of the promising new Surinamese writing talents.

Een spetterend Gran Gala in Thalia, met de feestelijke bekendmaking van de winnaars van de schrijffestijnen, de wedstrijden die in het kader van het festival werden uitgeschreven. Onder meer voordrachten van werk van overleden dichters, kabra-gedichten, een soko-psalm van Switi Melodia en voordrachten van een reeks nationale en internationale auteurs. En alle bezoekers werden uitgenodigd om mee te doen met het dictee Sranantongo, dat onder leiding van Eddy van der Hilst en Cynthia McLeod gegeven werd.

A festive finale of this first edition of the International Literary festival Surinam. Consisting of prose, poetry and music. Performances from the foreign guests and many Surinam authors: including well known names and promising debutants. Such as Sombra, Ronald Giphart (The Netherlands), Gibi Bacilio (Curaçao), EKM Dido (South Africa), Sitok Srengenge (Indonesia), Norine Blinker, Norma Bouterse, Andy Fernandes, Harvey Fräser, Roway James, Marlène Oudsten, Mireille Pinas, Terry and Jeffrey Quartier. Also performances by the Mavis Noordwijk choir (a combination of the Kokriki choir and the ADEK choir) and a closing song by Albert Mungroo. Presented by Annemarie Sanches.
