Merietza Haakmat is a young talented singer from Curaçao. Together with guitarist Hershel Rosario she put together a repertoire of Curaçaon songs that nowadays are rarely sung on the island. From the very first Papiamento poetry that has been put to music (from Joseph Sigmund Corsen), to work from the legendary troubadour Oswin (Chin) Behilia. She also sings Papiamento protest songs from the forties, written by the trio Julia Perenal. This trio raised in a humorous way questions regarding social cultural matters and the unrest of that time.
