An impressionistic documentary by Jiska Rickels, that carries you into a world where colours disappear, sounds are distorted and machines make music. A world full of dangers, where the life of every coalminer is put into the hands of Saint Barbara to ensure a safe return. The coalmine is both heaven and hell. Its beauty and comradeship are not easy to put into words; one has to go through the journey oneself in order to catch a glimpse of this world that is about to disappear.
