Film: On the Comet (na kometě)

On the Comet is an exciting 1970 adaptation on a 19th century rich French lieutenant in an African country, a girl who saves him from drowning, slave traders who plot against French rule. They are all sucked away by a foreign planet. Far away from earth the imperialists and the Africans make peace to live on in harmony in a utopian society. Having returned to earth peace is quickly forgotten. The Czech director Zeman was inspired for this film by old postcards and Victorian etchings and made a topical satire on random acts of violence in our society. English subtitles.
