At the end of September 2023, Adriaan van Dis launched his own podcast. In Van Dis Ongefilterd (Van Dis Unfiltered), he talks every two weeks about everything that concerns him with Simon Dikker Hupkes, known from the Wie is (Who is) podcast series and editor at Van Dis' publishing house Atlas Contact

As a special exception, Van Dis did not record the podcast at his pubisher, but in the foyer of Theater aan het Spui with an audience, as a highly acclaimed Sunday morning programme of the Writers Unlimited International Literature Festival The Hague. Xillan Macrooy, storyteller in literature, theatre and music, performed in a short musical interlude.

Entertaining, funny, instructive: the great thing about Van Dis Ongefilterd is that the podcasts are about books, poetry and the Dutch East Indies, but mostly about many more sensible and nonsensical topics. Not only does Van Dis rightly stress the importance of reading and books, he also answers listeners' questions. Adriaan makes Van Dis Ongefilterd with Simon Dikker Hupkes and Bart Jeroen Kiers. Simon is an editor and host. Besides Van Dis Ongefilterd, he also hosts the Wie is...? podcast. Bart Jeroen is a producer and manager e-commerce at publishing house Atlas Contact.

Adriaan van Dis grew up in a family with a past in the Dutch East Indies. He draws on these experiences in several of his works such as My Father's War (1995), Repatriated (2002) and in Naar zachtheid en een warm omhelzen (2023). Van Dis became well known via his literary television programme Here is... Adriaan van Dis (1983-1992). In addition to novels he has written novellas, travelogues, essays and plays. He presented TV documentary series and his podcast Van Dis Ongefilterd. He has received the Constantijn Huygens Award for his entire body of work. Recent publications are the collection Vijf vrolijke verhalen (2021), the novel KliFi, woede in de republiek Nederland (2022) and the essay De kolonie mept terug: over witte arrogantie en voortschrijdend inzicht: een denkoefening en leesreis (2024). During the Writers Unlimited Festival 2026, Van Dis will be the main interview guest on Saturday afternoon, 24 January, following the publication of his new book Alles voor de reis (Everything for the Journey).

Xillan Macrooy is a storyteller in literature, theatre and music. He moves between different disciplines, celebrating his identity as a shapeshifter. As the son of multiple worlds, transformation of identity plays an important role in his work. His debut novel, Mensen als zonnen en mensen als manen (People Like Suns and People Like Moons), was published in September 2025. It tells the story of growing up as a Black queer boy in Suriname and how notions of masculinity influence an individual's life. He is currently touring theatres with his show A COMING OF (R)AGE RITUAL. His debut album SON will follow later this year.
