Tjibbe Veldkamp

(The Netherlands, 1962) is a writer of children's books. In 1992, his debut was published: Een ober van niks. Between 1993 and 2000, Veldkamp also wrote for Donald Duck and Disneyland. Since 2001, he has been a full-time writer and translator. Most of his books are picture books for which he frequently collaborates with Philip Hopman, and also with Kees de Boer and Wouter Tulp. His books have won several awards, including the Zilveren Griffel such as Maar eerst ving ik een monster (2021), which was named Picture Book of the Year the following year. For De jongen die van de wereld  hield (2023), he was awarded the Nienke van Hichtum Prize, biennial award for children's books. It is a highly original story about a 'possible child', a ghost still, who emerges from the spark that sparks when his parents meet. He desperately wants to live.
