Salimata Diabate
Salimata Diabaté's voice has been characterized as whole, warm and powerful. Her music takes the listener back to the time of the once mighty Mandinka empire, covering a large part of 14th century West Africa. Its history is still sung by griots, a kind of praise poets. Salimata too hails from a family of griots. In addition to traditional repertoire she sings songs she wrote herself.
