Mavis Noordwijk Koor
is a combination of the Kokriki choir and the Adek choir, under the leadership of the well known music pedagoge Mavis Noordwijk. The Kokriki choir was initiated in 1995. Kokriki is a mixed choir of young people aged about 16. The repertoire of the choir is extremely varied. It consists of canons, qoud libets and simple numbers, arranged for two or three voices in various languages and styles. The Anton de Kom University choir (ADEK choir) made its debut on the 29th Dies Natalis of the University (1997). Alongside canons, qoud libets and folk songs in various languages the choir also sings religious and classical songs from Surinam and abroad. They prefer to sing a capella, occasionally accompanied by percussion or guitar. Songs by the Kokriki and the Adek choir have been recorded and released on the cd Singi Makandra Yonguwan .
