(The Netherlands, 1960) was originally an industrial designer. In 1990 she began conceiving, designing, writing and illustrating children's books. Her big breakthrough came with the Hoe overleef ik… (How Can I Survive...) series, which won the Kinderjury Prize nine times in a row, the Young Jury five times, as well as other prizes. The series has 15 parts, and the story has been filmed for TV and the movies, as well as reworked into two successful musicals. An eponymous magazine was successfully published for seven years. For adults, Oomen has written the autobiographical graphic novels Oomen stroomt over (Oomen Overflows) and Hoe overleven we (How Do We Survive), and the poetry collection Gek van liefde (Mad with Love). In 2023 she launched a new series for twentysomethings, Hoe overleef ik alles wat ik niemand vertel? (How Do I Survive Everything I Tell No One?), a huge bestseller that spent weeks at the top of the Top Ten lists.

The Big Survival Show with Francine Oomen

    With: Francine Oomen

Francine Oomen presents The Big Survival Show. This time for ex-teenagers: the readers of the Hoe overleef ik (How Can I Survive) series who have become (young) adults. The focus is on all the generational and age perils of our time. Oomen answers the public's questions and discusses the issues with them.

In September 2023, Oomen published her first book for people in their twenties and thirties: Hoe overleef ik alles wat ik niemand vertel? (How Do I Survive Everything I Tell No One?). It soon became clear that readers clicked with Rosa and her friends. Within a month, almost 100,000 copies were sold and the book remained number one on the the Bestseller 60 list for weeks. Meanwhile, a musical version is in the works.

What if your dreams for the future have burst like soap bubbles? When you're still living in your parents' attic while your friends host house-warming parties and make babies? When everyone else seems to be doing better than you? What if you feel lonely, suffer from fomo, choice stress, voices in your head and student debt? What if there are things you don't dare tell anyone? In short: growing up, how do you do it?

The Big Survival Show is a presentation full of humour, (inter)action and indispensable survival tips!

What happens to you when there are all kinds of things you don't dare tell anyone?
What do you do when you badly need your friends, but haven't seen them for four years?
What do you do when you hear ugly voices in your head?
What do you do when you feel like a complete mess, while you are in fact a psychologist?
What do you do when you feel different from others. And when you are different?
When your dreams for the future have burst like soap bubbles?
Or if you discover that you're pregnant (by accident and for the second time)?
When you have an enormous student debt, but no degree,
when you've lost your perspective, because the world is going to ****,
when you're lost and your inner compass is missing,
when you compare yourself to others and never feel good enough...
In short: growing up, HOW do you do it?
Especially not letting on that you're just pretending?
Fake it until you make it? Do you go at it alone, or dare to band together?
