Cox Habbema

(Amsterdam, 1944) is an actress, director and writer. She studied history and for a short while law and then went to theatre school. In 1982 she acted in the film De stilte rond Christine M., (The silence around Christine M.), a film from Marleen Gorris. From 1971 to 1986 she lived and worked in East Berlin. During that period she was involved with (Brecht) theatre at the Deutsches Theater. From 1986 to 1996 Habbema was director of the Amsterdam Theater. Presently, alongside her work for the Federation of Artists Associations, she gives lectures and presentations. Up until the end of 2003 Cox Habbema worked as Cultural Manager in Almere. In October and November 2004 she went on tour with her monologue Een vrouw in Berlijn (A woman in Berlin), based on a anonymous diary of a young woman in Berlin at the end of the second world war.
