Winternachten has the Dutch premiere of Mutluluk or Bliss as the film in called in English. Mutluluk is a hit in Turkey. The film is based on the novel Liberation by Ömer Zülfü Livaneli. In both the book and the film all the contrasts and all the faces of modern Turkey are brought together: family revenge, Kurdish warriors, East ands West, the crisis of identity of the Turkish intellectual, nationalism and religion. The film is beautifully filmed, has some strong acting, featuring the discovery of the film, actress Özgu Namal as the raped girl Meryem who has to be killed by her family. English subtitles.
