The Writers Unlimited board has appointed Judith Uyterlinde as Writers Unlimited's new director from 1 April 2023.

She succeeds Ellen Walraven, who left on 1 December 2022. Writers Unlimited's events in The Hague include the Winternachten international literature festival The Hague, which this year takes place on 12 February, 12 March, 16 and 21 April in Theater aan het Spui.

Judith Uyterlinde worked as an editor and publisher for several Dutch literary publishers, including De Bezige Bij and J.M. Meulenhoff. Since 2017, she was publishing director at World Editions, an English-language publishing house specialising in translated literature from around the world.

In addition, Judith Uyterlinde has extensive experience as a literary programmer and coordinator. For the Amsterdam Public Library, she organised the 'Literary Salon' and for Women Inc. the literature series 'Read my Lips.' On behalf of the Dutch Foundation for Literature, she coordinated the literary 'Guest of Honour' programme, which presented Dutch and Flemish literature to an international audience at the 2016 Frankfurter Buchmesse.

She is also no stranger to the Winternachten festival; from 2008-2012 she was associated with the festival as programmer and from 2012-2015 as programme coordinator.

Judith Uyterlinde: "I'm looking forward to continuing to build, together with all the other people involved, this unique international literature festival that I have long been passionate about. Winternachten has much to offer that is more important than ever in this day and age: a platform for using literature to enter into a conversation about subjects that concern and preoccupy us all. And, just as important, it is also a meeting place to talk, laugh and dance with people from all parts of the world. I am already looking forward to it."

Farah Karimi, board chair of Writers Unlimited Foundation: "Board and staff have great confidence in Judith Uyterlinde. With her experience as a publisher and programme maker, and with her large network within the literary and cultural sector in the Netherlands and abroad, we believe we have found in her a strong person who can lead Writers Unlimited and Winternachten international literature festival The Hague in these socially turbulent times."

Writers Unlimited brings together writers, journalists, thinkers, poets, artists and their audiences in the Winternachten international literature festival The Hague, in Writers Series programmes on location in The Hague and in podcasts. During these encounters, they exchange their literary work, their experiences, dreams and ideas across cultures and languages. Writers Unlimited's activities are made possible thanks to contributions from the municipality of The Hague and the Dutch Foundation for Literature.
