Ellen Walraven leaves as director Writers Unlimited

Ellen Walraven steps down as director of Writers Unlimited and the Winternachten international literature festival The Hague on 1 December 2022 after more than two intensive years.

The festival was twice unable to take place as usual in January during the corona pandemic. It was transformed into an online festival in 2021 and moved to Summer in 2022.

Walraven is proud that the festival has always continued: "It required maximum effort and inventiveness from the team. We learned a lot and sought new forms with writers and celebrated with an engaged audience. Our editors developed into exceptional programme makers. Thanks to professional video recordings, the programmes of these editions can be found in our online archive."

The Writers Unlimited board is grateful to Ellen Walraven for her creativity and energy. Board chair Farah Karimi: "We are grateful to her for creating Writers Series programmes, podcasts and two Winternachten festival editions under difficult circumstances during the corona pandemic, and wish Ellen every success in her further career."

The upcoming Winternachten international literature festival The Hague will take place over three months on 12 February, 12 March, 16 and 21 April 2023 at Theater aan het Spui.

The board will soon start looking for a new director. The fixed values of Writers Unlimited are the starting point: visitors come to the Winternachten festival and the Writers Series programmes for writers from home and abroad, their books, readings and conversations that give new insights into current social and literary themes.
