Winternachten 2008
Wed 16 January - Tue 22 January 2008
The writers have the floor. During Winternachten they participated in debate, read from their own work, discussed the world in their work and the literature in the world. This year numerous Arab authors were performing, in addition to writers from South Africa, Indonesia, Turkey, Surinam, the Antilles/Aruba and of course the Netherlands and Flanders.
This year's theme was 'Ghost Ship the World'. Winternachten focused on fear. We are afraid of or are being frightened by globalisation, terrorism, refugees, technological developments, climate change, and a host of other things. Writers and thinkers deboned fear to the very core on the various stages. What is it we're actually afraid of?
In addition to renowned authors there were many young international writers at the festival. There were poetry readings, there is an afternoon dedicated to Arab literature and there was, not to forget, a wide range of music and film, including the Dutch premiere of the Turkish filmhit 'Mutluluk'. On this website you'll find the programme in full.
